James O. “Jim” Heiting, managing partner of Heiting & Irwin, has practiced law for over 30 years. The only past President of the State Bar of California ever elected from the Inland Empire, Heiting handles civil litigation matters throughout California. He has recovered well over $100 million for clients, dealing with wrongful death, serious injury, professional malpractice and transportation accidents. He has also enjoyed handling and litigating cases involving horse sales, breeding and claims.

Mr. Heiting has served in a variety of roles in the Superior Court and the Federal District Court. He is also sought after as a privately-requested and court-appointed arbitrator and mediator in state courts and the California Court of Appeal. He has been invited as a speaker, lecturer and panelist for the State Bar and a variety of legal and community organizations.

Emphasizing civil litigation in his career, Mr. Heiting represented clients throughout the state in bringing and/or defending a wide variety of claims. He is recognized as an extremely successful, tough and tenacious lawyer. He is highly recommended as a mediator and an arbitrator.

He was recognized for his State Bar service with a variety of awards from the Chief Justice of the California Supreme Court, Senators and other legislators. He was also awarded the Ralph A. Krieger award for meritorious service — the most prestigious award from the Riverside County Bar Association --- and awards for exemplary service as a mediator/arbitrator from the 9th District (Federal Court) and the 4th District Court of Appeal.

Mr. Heiting served on the Board of Governors of the State Bar of California, was a co-founder of the Leo A. Deegan Inn of Court (formed to train and foster "excellence in professionalism, ethics, civility and legal skills") and was a charter member of the Inland Empire Federal Bar Association.

Mr. Heiting is admitted to practice law before all courts of the state, the federal courts, the United States Court of Federal Claims and the California and United States Supreme Courts.

Mr. Heiting and his wife Cindy, married since 1971, live in Riverside; they have three grown sons, who are involved in law enforcement and construction trades.
